To design a better world through smarter materials.
Soon, the KiwiFibre material will be commonplace in high performance products.
From melting ice caps to plastic pollution, so many of our problems as humans stem from production of synthetic materials to feed our consumeristic tendencies. Better products, made from sustainable materials is the first step in the right direction
Ben Scales and William Murrell both grew up in rural parts of New Zealand, gaining an appreciation for what nature has to offer. Both being interested in design and engineering, the fusion between nature and engineering is an exciting prospect. While studying at University, they set out on a mission to design better products from smarter materials. KiwiFibre Innovations was born.
During the University of Canterburys Summer Startup programme, their vision for a natural alternative to carbon fibre and fibreglass became closer to reality. From humble beginnings, experimenting with fibres and resins in the garages of their student flats, they created KiwiFibre, New Zealands first natural composite material.
